Residential Flower Power

WHAT IT IS:  SOAR provides social visits and flower arrangements on a scheduled basis to assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care facilities across Fairfield County.

BENEFITS:  Social engagement is directly correlated to increased mood and a decrease in loneliness.  Couple a social visit with the cathartic nature of flowers and their mood-changing capacity of colors and you have an incredible opportunity to uplift spirits within moments.  The outcome is immediate and uplifted spirits are palpable.  Many residents, lifelong gardeners and passionate about flowers themselves, are viscerally reminded of the cathartic nature of flowers and recall stories of gardens, favorite flowers, and joyful time spent with their families.

RECIPIENTS: Residents decide on flower arrangement recipient groups and the SOAR team facilitates the gifting of arrangements by creating relationships with recipients organizations and delivering arrangements on behalf of residents.  SOAR welcomes resident participation in the delivery process with residential leadership/staff participation to ensure proper safety protocol.

The electric aspect of SOAR is when we give our younger generation the reins on Flower Power and watch their tremendous capacity to naturally and empathically create change as those who know precisely how it feels to be both lonely and isolated.  We are the glue that binds, the cog in the wheel for their brilliant creations and on-hand to help them naturally become next generation leaders....
